Can the condition of the pelvic floor affect one’s sex life?
tobe_admin
Pelvic floor problems can lead to physical sexual difficulties, such as the inability to have sexual intercourse in women (vaginismus, pain during intercourse, and inability to reach orgasm) as well as in men (functional erectile dysfunction, pain during ejaculation, and inability to achieve orgasm).
With a healthy pelvic floor that has adequate tone, a couple’s sex life and sexual intercourse should be functionally satisfying and pain-free, and both partners should be able to reach orgasm. Once the strength and tone of the pelvic floor decline, or if the opposite extreme occurs—when a woman or man has an overactive pelvic floor—we are dealing with impaired function, leading to sexual dysfunction.
This is another area that we at Intim Fyzio can address through a gentle initial examination followed by pelvic treatment for both women and men. We recommend the most appropriate therapy, which, with good cooperation from the patient, yields positive results and resolves the problem. However, it is important to emphasize that a satisfying sex life for partners is primarily related to their emotional and psychological state. Your mental state, emotions, and lifestyle are very closely linked to the condition of your pelvic floor—all the more so when it comes to your sex life. That is why here at Intim Fyzio, we also provide psychological therapy to ensure a holistic approach to any issue our patients may face.
